Sixth graders who are eligible to take the Hunter Exam focus on enhancing their pre-algebra and vocabulary. We focus on helping students better understand the concept of algebra with challenging questions from Khan Academy and Math Contest. Students also bring topics they are stuck with in school, and discuss them during session.
We also go over advance vocabulary by reading passages and listening to audios that use these vocabulary words in sentences.
Seventh grade is an important grade, especially for students in New York who want to get accepted to prestigious high schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech, Townsend Harris, etc. For these students, we like to stress the importance of maintaining a good grade in school by going over topics they are currently learning, and also topics covered in the SHSAT. Students delve into algebra problems and advance vocabulary, and are taught methods on solving these problems efficiently.
Eight grade is when most students in New York take the SHSAT to get accepted to Specialized High Schools. Because of this, we go over topics covered in the SHSAT, such as advanced algebra, and vocabulary that are frequently used in the test's passages. After students finish taking the SHSAT, we like to go over topics that are taken in freshman year of high school, such as Geometry.
Students are engaged in challenging questions through the website Kahoot!, where they compete who gets the most points based on how many answers they get correct. These quizzes tests how well students contain the information they learned in class, such as vocabulary or math questions.
Contents in the Kahoot quizzes are personally made by staff.
